Yesterday an old college friend of mine snapped a photo of the track listing sleeve from an old Radio Hannibal mixtape I made back in 1985. He found it while rummaging around his home.
I posted the photo on Facebook and began to hear from friends who claimed that they, too, had vintage Radio Hannibal mixtapes. These shows, as I call them, in cassette format and as burned CDs, are residing here in Ohio as well as Kentucky, North Carolina, New Jersey and other states.
I asked that those who might have one take a photo of the track listing so that I could re-create the mixtape on my Spotify Daily Music Sessions. Though I later realized that sometime in the late 80s I moved away from making a track listing in favor of the element of surprise.
One mixtape, I anonymously sent, caught the attention of Plain Dealer radio critic David Sowd back in 1988. It was quite flattering.
For today's Daily Music Session I re-enacted the playlist from the photo. By the way, it's a 30th anniversary. Three songs were unavailable on Spotify. The Chesterfield Kings - You Belong To Me, Death of Samantha - Stories For Children, and The Melody Makers - Play The Game Right. I kept all three artists and tried replacing the songs with others from around the same time though that was a bit difficult.
