When you're in your teens you think you know it all. I'm witnessing it now with my 15 year old son. I was the same way, especially when it came to music.
I was a rocker. I had no use for any of that sappy singer-songwriter stuff. Or at least that's the public image I portrayed. In the privacy of my bedroom it wasn't true at all.
I'm sure I wasn't alone in my secret enjoyment of artists who were maligned wrongly by the "cool kids". Here's four of them.
Paul McCartney - The argument between who was better, Lennon or McCartney raged back then. And there's no way I was siding with the wimpy Paul.
David Gates and Bread - I bought they're greatest hits album and knew every word by heart but there was no way I was letting on to that embarrassing fact.
John Denver - He looked so innocent. This guy was a cocaine freak? He hid it well behind his tender songs.
Dan Fogelberg - I cry every time I hear "Same Old Lang Syne".
