Matt Harmon is a Cleveland singer/songwriter. His main venue for live performing being The Barking Spider. He's about as nice a guy as you'd ever want to meet. His songs perfectly reflect that. Harmon has played in bands as well. For awhile he played in the JiMiller Band, honing his chops on Grateful Dead songs.
Like other independent musicians Harmon had a Kickstarter fundraising campaign last year in order to finance a new album. The result is one of the most ambitious local music releases of I've seen in Cleveland in quite some time.
The album, Cosmic Yonder, is a concept piece hearkening back to the idea of album as art in the 1970s. It opens with a string section and you know this isn't your average local album. Harmon counts Randy Newman as a big influence and that's evident in the witty lyrics and piano arrangements.
The CD itself is a delight from its artwork to its gatefold opening. It's obvious Harmon has put a great deal of thought into every aspect of Cosmic Yonder.
